Event: South Island Grains Field-Day
Description: First Stop: 10:00 am Location: 4659 William Head Rd, Metchosin. (Field is approx 2 km from Metchosin store. Parking on Lane beside field at 4659 William Head Rd.)
Second Stop: 1:00 pm Location: Mike Doehnel Saanich (Traveling either north or south on the Pat Bay highway turn east onto Island View Road then immediately after Michell Farm Market turn right onto Lochside Trail. Continue on for ˝ km - will be on your left before the Lochside Trail and Martindale Road intersection.)

We'll start at a 10 acre field of conventionally-grown, hard red spring wheat, move to a nearby property with both modern and heritage (Red Fife) varieties of wheat, then drive to a second site in Saanich to inspect a variety of grains. A further option is to visit Sharon Remple's small plot heritage wheat planting.

Cost: no charge; refreshments provided by Farm Credit Canada.

Event: Manure Maven Training Workshop
Description: LEPS(Langley Environmental Partnership Society) educates and provides technical assistance to equestrian landowners and small-lot farmers throughout the Province through the Manure Maiden program, offering manure composting and pasture management workshops as well as site consultations for individual land owners. The program has generated a huge response and was expanded to serve all of BC in 2007. We are now looking to create a network of Manure Maven facilitators throughout the main regions in BC: Lower Mainland/Fraser Valley, Vancouver Island, Thompson Okanagan, Kootenay Rockies, Peace River, Northwest Coast, and the Cariboo Chilcotin.

We are looking for interested participants who are willing to act as a resource in their respective regions and potentially conduct workshops and site consultations on their own time, to be part of a Manure Maven network. There is a small financial incentive as you are free to charge for your workshops, site consultations, and Land Management Guides. LEPS will be available for technical support within the first year of the program.
